Giving made easy: How Horley Baptist Church embraced cashless fundraising with Give A Little

Like many charitable organisations, Horley Baptist Church faced a challenge: How to seamlessly manage multiple fundraising efforts - from the building fund to a monthly giving drive for local causes all while catering to a community that rarely carries cash.

Angie Robinson,  Operations Manager at Horley Baptist Church, sums up their experience perfectly: "Give A Little is so easy to use. It's intuitive. The thing I really appreciate is that you keep changing and adding new features and making it better. It's just been so nice to use something that actually works.”

The challenge: Making digital giving work for the church

Horley Baptist Church needed a solution that was flexible as they run several fundraising campaigns concurrently and also collect donations for events such as a ladies’ craft evening and a curry night, as well as their popular toddler group.

Angie adds: “Once a month we hold a “£4 for the community” campaign where we choose a local charity and encourage people just to give £4. It's a great way of getting people into the mindset of giving.”

The church often uses Give A Little’s List of Campaigns feature to enable donors to choose which fund they would like to donate to. One current example is giving donors the option to contribute to a building fund or to general donations for the church.

Angie has embraced Give A Little’s new Magic campaign template: “The Magic campaigns are brilliant - that's one of the things that works so well  because the campaigns are formatted to look good on different screen sizes including tablets, phones and computer screens.”

Angie also really likes the flexibility of Give A Little’s new user permissions which allows some users access to create campaigns while restricting  access to  reports and sensitive donor data.

Turning smartphones into contactless donation points

The church set up Give A Little in 2022, using the platform for everything from fixed donation points to collections on the go with the Give A Little Champion App.

The Give A Little Champion App has proven hugely popular, enabling church staff and volunteers to turn their phones into portable, contactless donation boxes—perfect for ad-hoc collections, fundraising sales, and off-site activities such as a bowling and snacks evening at a local venue.

Angie explains: “A lady at the church had made a large number of hats to sell.  I have set up the Give A Little Champion App on my phone so I gave it to one of our teenage volunteers, who sat by the table with hats that had been made and he collected the donations using the app on my phone. That worked really well. And the men went out for a curry recently and so we created a campaign for that and some of the guests paid for their evening that way which also worked well.  We are considering having a church phone which can be left at the church for any volunteers to use.”

Why Horley Baptist Church recommends Give A Little

The church’s success with cashless giving demonstrates that giving is easy when the tools are reliable. Angie sums up her experience with Give A Little so far:

“The Give A Little Team communicates very well. It’s very obvious what everything does. I really like it. You have made it so simple. We are so pleased with the platform - we definitely made the right choice. Thanks for providing such a great service!”
