Pets Foundation doubles amount raised at vet practices using Give A Little’s new Multi-QR Code feature

Pets Foundation approached Give A Little with a challenge around how to raise and track funds at its Vets4Pets practices who wanted to be involved in the charity’s flagship annual Santa Paws Appeal.

The challenge

Amy Wilson, Pets Foundation Fundraising Manager explains:

“Our Santa Paws Christmas Appeal is our biggest fundraiser of the year and we wanted to make sure that everyone who has an interaction with the Pets at Home Group had an opportunity to donate. We have 450 Vets4Pets vet practices who we wanted to invite to take part in the 2024 Appeal but they are not able to take donations in the same way that we do in the Pets at Home stores where donations can be made at the till. We had to develop a way to enable any client visiting a Vets4Pets to make a donation and we wanted to be able to track how much was raised by each vet practice taking part so we could celebrate those who really engaged with the Appeal.”

The solution

“When Give A Little suggested that we pilot their new Multi-QR Code feature, which allows you to specify and track multiple QR codes which lead to a single campaign, we jumped at the opportunity as we could see that it could work really well for us. QR codes are affordable and easy to print and distribute to each practice and people are very familiar with how they work. We could integrate the QR codes into the branded, printed collateral we were designing for the Santa Paws Appeal and ensure that all the materials had a consistent look and feel. We created a single Santa Paws campaign and specified 400 QR codes which we assigned unique tags to for tracking. To ensure that we added the right QR code to the right poster, we added the store practice and number, so when printing the posters they all looked the same but were actually bespoke for each practice. We created a template so we could easily drop the relevant QR code onto each poster.”

The results

On how happy Pets Foundation were with the results of the campaign, Amy adds:

“We raised double what we raised last year with the Vets group, which is really encouraging and we expect this to increase even more this year. We’re hoping to get more practices on board and being able to communicate the success we had with this approach in 2024 will definitely help with take up. Give A Little ensured that the QR code tags were available in their reports so it was really easy to track and segment the income as well as track the amount raised by each practice.”

What’s next

In addition to using the new Give A Little Champion App for various fundraising activities including inviting Manchester marathon runners to use the app to raise funds, Pets Foundation is also going to try out the Multi-QR Code feature with their popular colleague raffle which takes place in summer and winter.

Amy explains:

“We are keen to use the Multi-QR Codes to help us understand which fundraising materials are the most effective. We use all sorts of methods from posters on toilet doors in our distribution centres to tent cards in the canteen to our social channels.. The QR codes will allow us to establish which materials we should put our time and resources into, which is really exciting.”
