Play to the Crowd increases bucket collections by a third with Give A Little and Stripe
Play to the Crowd is an arts and education charity based in Winchester, Hampshire. The charity runs Theatre Royal Winchester and Hat Fair, the UK’s longest continually running international outdoor arts festival.
September 3, 2024The charity also carries out creative learning and community engagement through the theatre and Hat Fair throughout Winchester and the district.
Becca Moore, Play to the Crowd, Fundraising manager explains why the charity opted to introduce cashless giving:
“We introduced cashless giving because public funding in the arts is in crisis and it’s really important for us to diversify our income streams and maximise income where we can. And we’re finding that people are giving cash less and less so we’ve got to go digital in as many ways as we can and it was really important to find a system - software and hardware - that worked in the way that we needed, because not only do we take donations in venue, we also take them when we’re out and about at Hat Fair or when we are carrying out our community work or in schools. So being able to take devices with us that make it easy to give is really important.”
On why the charity chose to go with Give A Little and payment processor, Stripe, Becca adds:
“We chose Give A Little because it’s really useful to have one software solution that can work on multiple hardware solutions. So the fact that you can have QR codes, the CollecTins, the DonationFrame and the Stripe S700 card readers, but all of the income and reporting is in one place is great. And we chose to go with Stripe with Give A Little because of the very competitive fees, as well as the wide range of features such as offline donations, monthly recurring contactless donations and Give & Go.”
On why being able to collect offline donations was particularly important to Play to the Crowd, Becca says:
“We love the fact that we can take offline donations, particularly when we are out and about during Hat Fair. When we’re in the centre of town, it’s really tricky to be able to use WiFi so the fact that we don’t have any interruptions to people being able to give is amazing.”
The customisable campaigns that Give A Little offers were also appealing when choosing a software provider:
“We love that we can get our branding on the Give A Little campaigns displayed on the devices so they can feel really unique to Play to the Crowd and show off everything we do and really engage people on that donor journey.”
