2 April 2026The secret ingredient: What is PAR?
To match a donation to a donor without needing their name and address for every single tap, Swiftaid uses something called Payment Account Reference (PAR).
PAR is a unique identifier used in the payments ecosystem to link all transactions made with a specific payment account - regardless of the card number or form factor used (physical card, mobile wallet like Apple Pay or Google Pay).
It is
nota credit card number.It is
notsensitive financial data (it’s PCI compliant).
The PAR helps Swiftaid to link a donor who has a Swiftaid declaration on file to the person who tapped their phone or card at your contactless terminal.
How to get started
If you are using Give A Little, follow these steps to see if you can claim your share of missed Gift Aid:
- Check your reports:Log in to your Give A Little admin account and export the campaigns report for the current tax year. You will see a column for the PAR information*.
- Visit the Swiftaid Finder Guide:Head over to theSwiftaid Gift Aid Finder Guideto understand the full process.
- Register with Swiftaid:It’s free to register your charitable organisation. Swiftaid takes a fee of 10% + VAT on the Gift Aid they find for you.
- Download the template:Swiftaid provides a simple spreadsheet template to download. There is also a handy video on theSwiftaid Gift Finder Guide page, that takes you through how to fill out the spreadsheet.
- Copy your data:You will need to copy the relevant donation data from your Give A Little campaigns export into the Swiftaid template. You need to include the donation date; donation amount and PAR. All other data is optional but include the donor name, email address and address if you have them as they will help to match the donor to Swiftaid’s records.
- Upload:Once you upload your data, Swiftaid does the heavy lifting of matching and claiming Gift Aid from HMRC before passing it onto you.
Ensure you include donations received by your charitable organisation in the current tax year, which runs from 6 April 2025 to 5 April 2026. Donations outside this period are not eligible for Gift Aid claims.
