Give A Little powers Church of England Give To Go Green match funding scheme
The Church of England has partnered with Give A Little, which helps over 8,500 charities to collect cashless donations, to power its Give To Go Green match funding scheme, which helps churches cut carbon emissions.
12 August 2024The first pilot included 26 churches in Exeter and Leeds and ran for a six week period. The results were extremely positive with the average contactless donation value increasing fivefold and over 73 % of churches exceeding their match funding target, some by 200%, with £163,550 raised in total.
Pilot two
Pilot two will be rolled out from August 2024 with over 300 churches expected to take part.
This collaboration is part of the platform’s long-term relationship with the Church of England, which allows all of its parishes to access Give A Little Premium features.
Give A Little has developed a bespoke, eye-catching branded Give To Go Green campaign template that allows churches to set up their campaigns quickly and easily and display them on their donation stations and websites.
Give A Little also included a target bar so donors could see how far away the church is from achieving their match funding amount.

Match funding
When setting up the Give To Go Green campaign in their Give A Little account, churches can choose to enable Gift Aid, marketing consent and receipts in the same way they do with standard Give A Little campaigns. The start date and pre-approved match funded target amount is applied in the Give A Little admin dashboard and the campaign becomes available on that start date and automatically finishes six weeks later.
Give A Little has also developed a match funding mechanism that allows the Church of England to automatically pay out the match funded amount if the church achieves its target using Stripe.
Helen Simpkiss, National Fundraising Advisor, The Church of England, said:
“We approached Give A Little straight away when we knew we wanted to launch Give To Go Green. We have worked with Give A Little as strategic partners for over four years now and they have never hesitated when we’ve asked them to develop the platform to accommodate new features to help our churches maximise their fundraising. They helped us to pivot to online giving during the pandemic and they have now developed an innovative match funding capability which allows us to seamlessly pay out the target amount to enable the churches to fund their carbon reduction projects. We are so pleased with the results so far with average donation values for contactless increasing five fold in phase one.”
Ben Stewart, Give A Little MD, said:
“It’s been a pleasure to partner with the Church of England on their carbon reduction match funding scheme, Give To Go Green. As a mission led organisation that uses digital as a force for good, we thrive on rising to challenges like this and are extremely pleased to have been given the opportunity to develop a range of innovative new features and capabilities. The results of Give To Go Green phase one are extremely promising and we are confident that phase two will be an even bigger success.”
